Create your own karaoke videos with Nescafé’s YOUMEOKE

Being in a band is an ultimate dream of mine. And if you know me well, you know I’m a sucker for videoke. Yes, I admit – I am a mic clencher.

But have you ever wondered what it would be like to make your own videoke video? That sounded a bit weird.. videoke video. Well anyway, thanks to Nescafe, there’s an easy way for you to do just that.

Introducing YOUMEOKE. You-me-what? YOUMEOKE. It means “a videoke of you and me.” Kinda tacky, I know. Shoot the dude who came up with the name. YOUMEOKE is a Facebook app that allows you to create a slideshow of your Facebook photos – videoke style. It weaves your photos in fluid transitions, animates them against a musical track of your choice, with lyrics sprawled on the screen for you to shout sing along to.

Since we Filipinos love both videoke and Facebook, Nescafe has found a way to mix these two together with an application that’s fun and easy to use.

How easy? You just select a song from three categories (OPM Classics, Senti Pinoy Hits, Pinoy Bands), choose a maximum of three friends, and the app will do the rest. YOUMEOKE will search your photo bank for pictures where you and your friends are all tagged together, and will automatically use those photos, turn them into a slideshow and play it against the song of your choice.

Sidenote: I have no idea how this app is in any way connected to coffee. Oh well, I’ll just have to ask the Oracle.

Whether you wanna celebrate your birthday, reminisce that heartbreak, or serenade that hot chick you’ve been wanting to bang court, YOUMEOKE makes it possible for you to post the videos on your friends’ walls with its “share” function. A great way to annoy someone, I might add.

You can access YOUMEOKE at apps.facebook.com/youmeoke.

I haven’t tried the app yet, but I will soon. You’ll know I picked you when a video pops up on your wall. When it does, feel free to cuss me out.

The BEST SHAWARMA to end the year!

I know I already wrote my year-end post yesterday, but this shawarma tasted so fuckin’ good, I just had to blog about it!

Last night, I was invited to a birthday party with several friends from Jeddah. There was crabs, mussels, shrimps, chicken, squid, spaghetti, carbonara and lots of other dishes but only one caught our attention – SHAWARMAS.

Our friend Ghia made it herself and man, it was the BEST SHAWARMA I ATE THE WHOLE YEAR!! No gas, just truth. Garlic sauce was AWE-MAZING! Authentic shit, I tell you.

For those of you who DIDN’T grow up in Jeddah and think the shawarmas here are good, clearly, you haven’t tasted shit.

Props to Ghia! Here’s to more shawarma parties in 2012! HAHAHA!

Inside the Willy Wonka Imaginarium

One of the things I loved doing as a kid was read Roald Dahl stories like James and the Giant Peach, Matilda and The Wtiches. But the book he wrote I most enjoyed was Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. That book took my candy addiction to a WHOLE. NUTHA. LEVEL. The insane story of kids from all over, looking for golden tickets for an invitation to the magical world of Willy Wonka and his Chocolate Factory. The two movie adaptations were great in their own right, too.

So anyway, yesterday I visited the Wonka Imaginarium in Shangri-La Mall with my niece. Candy Corner, in partnership with Wonka, opened the Wonka Imaginarium – an enchanted factory that harvests dreams and turns them into candies (at least that’s what they say). I normally wouldn’t go to an event like this but my passion for candy was too overwhelming to let this pass.

The Wonka Imagnarium is a four-day exhibit (Dec. 1-4) that showcases the different Wonka candies. Kids can walk through a “a magical forest with giant bugs and talking trees; enter a tunnel of lost wishes and forgotten dreams; fly and fall from the sky; and learn magic straight from a witch—all to find the rainbow: the dream that makes the happiest of all candies.”

It’s a first of its kind here in the country, and just in time for the Holidays. So if you got any kids or if you’re a candy junkie like me, go visit the Wonka Imaginarium this weekend and get drowned in the world of kiddie drugs.

Shoutout to Geiser Maclang. Thanks for the invite and the loot bag!
